All of the planes, used, were built quickly and were not contest finished.  They only had a basic base color coat, and were built for test purposes, not contests.  It should also be noted that they were built on the heavy side and in most cases were out of the weight range listed on the kits, by not more than 1 pound.  This is partially due to the added functions and because we did additional modifications to wing spars, etc. for added strength. Building light is still the key to stable flying.  Make sure that your wing spars and all operations have doublers for re-enforcement.  There are ways and materials available to keep the weight of the model down and also do the needed modifications.  Your local hobby shop can help you with materials and technique, contact a local flying club for help, or you can always write to us for suggestions.

In all operational flight, except Stunt, pilots flew the aircraft with both hands on the handle. Safety Thongs were used, by looping Nylon Parachute Cord, through the hand grip and then looped around the right hand, in the same manner as you would for a GS or JR 3 line handle.  Now there is a Safety Bracket for the ScaleMaster that is detachable for non contest flying.  Safety Thongs are required for all AMA sanctioned events and contests.

Planes were flown with Sig connectors, on Malin lines, as indicated. No Shrinkage was reported on any of the line sizes.  Fuel tube was used over line connectors for added safety.

On all aircraft, both lines were nylon coated.

Stunt operations were limited to a maximum of 4 continuous loops, to avoid excessive line twisting.  Retracting the gear gave a notably smoother performance inverted, than would be achieved with the gear extended.  Throttle provided easy landing and engine shut down, rather than dead stick.

In flight operations it was found on the B-25 that adding Wing Flaps and adjusting Throttle prior to opening bomb bay doors, made the bomb run smoother and the flight more stable.  Bomb drop was much more accurate.

There were no adverse reports of elevator control.  The handle was tested using all 3 of the setting positions for sensitivity and control authority was maintained throughout.

All of the pilots reported a more comfortable grip on the handle and did not notice any significant discomfort with the slightly heavier weight of the ScaleMaster, and got used to it very quickly.

All of the planes were tested with Battery Power Change Over during flight, and no loss of control was reported.

In the case of the B-25, the pilot reported that one day he had forgoten to charge the batteries fully the night before.  He went to a local Sav-On Drug store and bought a 9v Duracell Alkaline replacement.  He used a 4/40 hex driver to remove the outer grip and replaced the battery and then continued flying.
